Expanding your existing space without adding to your home’s square footage can certainly pose a challenge. From renegotiating a room’s footprint to figuring out flow, there’s a lot to think about when creating a new, functional design within set physical parameters. In this recent remodel, our clients asked us to find a way to expand their kitchen and primary suite, and add a new powder room all within their existing home—a challenge that we were happy to take on.

In looking at options, we determined that the best course was to keep the original kitchen layout in place and then extend the area with additional cabinetry and new spot for the refrigerator into the existing living room, which would be relocated to an adjacent porch. We also opened up the hallway from the dining room to the original living room to give a more spacious feel.

Our clients loved the idea of injecting some color into this new space, so we went with a beautiful deep blueberry color for the lower cabinets. Gleaming quartz countertops, a slightly textured white subway tile backsplash, and stainless-steel appliances and accents balance out the look. Details like natural wood floating shelves, a beverage nook, and space to sit around the extended counter add a coziness to the space without it feeling cramped.

As we renegotiated the layout of the main floor, we were able to tuck a powder room into the original living room’s closet. We made the most out of this tiny nook with an unobtrusive pocket door and a bright white and neutral color palette to reflect the light.

To make the primary bathroom feel larger, we turned the shower stall 90 degrees to make use of the full width of the existing space. With gorgeous gray textured tiles, a built-in shelf and two shower heads, not to mention ample closed storage, this bathroom is now a true oasis.

Our clients absolutely love the way our team was able to transform their existing space into a stunning home that truly fits their needs!
